Huawei MateBook D 15 Review

The Huawei MateBook is one of the most interesting laptops to have come out in a while. It’s not only the first laptop from Huawei that’s been designed with a Windows operating system, but it’s also the first convertible laptop designed by Huawei as well. The MateBook is a pretty luxurious machine too. It features a classic aluminum design and comes in four different colors (Alpine White, Stellar Gray, Marine Blue, and Twilight). The 13-inch display has a 3:2 aspect ratio and looks good even outdoors. In fact, its gorgeous design won us over instantly. It’s not perfect though — some users have taken issue with the included fingerprint scanner located on the trackpad. It doesn’t feel very responsive when operated by our fingers either. Other than that though, we really like what Huawei has done here with the MateBook D 15 Professional. Below we take you through all of its strengths and weaknesses so you can make an informed buying decision before you go ahead and buy one for yourself

Gorgeous design with a solid build quality.

Excellent typing experience due to the backlit keyboard.

The MateBook is designed for those who like to type on their laptops — and the keys themselves feel great. They offer a nice tactile response, even when pressed lightly. The trackpad is also responsive and feels good to use. The MateBook also comes with Huawei’s famous in-key RGB backlit keyboard. It’s a new feature that Huawei has incorporated here. It allows you to assign different colors to different keys, so you can literally create your own personal keyboard. This could come in useful for editing images and videos, or authoring documents. Excellent battery life.

The MateBook has great battery life due to the 4G LTE modem. It can last up to 14 hours on a single charge, which is pretty impressive for a laptop in this price range. It’s an advantage that other devices without a 4G LTE modem do not have — and it’s one of the key reasons why you should consider buying the Huawei MateBook. The Huawei MateBook is designed with a USB type-C port, which is more popular than the more traditional USB type-A port. The Huawei MateBook also has quick charge support, so you can get up to six hours of use from a 15 minute charge — and the MateBook even supports wireless charging. Overall, the Huawei MateBook is a great choice for those who need a powerful yet thin laptop for work and play. The Huawei MateBook has great battery life due to the 4G LTE modem. Slow webcam and microphone.

The MateBook comes with two webcams — a rear-facing 13MP camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. They both offer autofocus, but the rear-facing cam’s image quality is subpar. It’s grainy and not very sharp. The front-facing camera on the MateBook is on the other hand, pretty good. It’s sharp, has good color saturation, and does not have any noticeable issues. The MateBook also has a decent microphone for making voice calls and recording audio. However, it’s not loud enough for use in noisy environments. Overall, the MateBook’s cameras and microphones are decent, but they’re not great — and they could be better. Huawei software needs work.

The Huawei MateBook runs on Windows 10 — but it comes with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) on top of the OS. Unlike many other OEMs, Huawei hasn’t made the tough decision to remove Google’s apps from the OS and instead has added its own. These include apps like HiCare, which provides tooltips and contextual help for the Huawei MateBook’s various features. However, this app is not very helpful and can also be frustrating to use. The Huawei Emotion UI also includes a few other apps that seem unnecessary, like the Super Screenshot. It’s a screenshot editor app that can be useful for creating image annotations, but it doesn’t
